Education resumes after cyberattack
Education at TU/e will resume on Monday after tests confirmed that the university’s network systems are now functioning as expected.
Back online
A week ago, all systems were taken offline in response to a cyberattack. Repair work was carried out over the weekend, and by Sunday, almost all applications were available. A few applications are still experiencing temporary limitations. Students who need IT support can contact IT Services for assistance.
Postponement of exams
Due to the cyberattack, TU/e has decided to postpone exams originally scheduled for the week of January 20 by one week. Quarter 2 exams will now begin on January 27, rather than January 20. A revised academic calendar is available here.
Students who are unable to attend one or more Q2 exams due to schedule changes and have a valid reason can reschedule their exams for a later date in Quarter 3 or 4. This allows students with planned trips or other obligations to participate in the exams at a later time, provided they notify the university in advance. Students must complete this form before Friday, January 24, 2025, at 23:59 for each exam they wish to reschedule.
Patrick Groothuis, Vice President of TU/e, said: “This ensures that students with other obligations will have the opportunity to take their exams at a later date, provided they notify us on time. This is not an additional exam opportunity but a rescheduling. We believe it is important to make this concession to ensure clarity within our organization and fulfill our duty of care. This way, students won’t need to cancel their plans or incur extra costs as they can still take their exams at another time.”
Other important calendar adjustments
- January 20–26: Week 8 of Quarter 2
- Quarter 2 exam eeks: Start on January 27 (originally January 20)
- Quarter 3: Week 8 will be removed to accommodate this shift
- Quarter 3 Exam Weeks: Start on the original date, April 7
- Quarter 4: Starts on the original date, April 21 (Note: No classes on April 21 due to Easter).
