Binding recommendation for continuation of studies academic year 2024/2025
At the end of the first year of a bachelor's program at TU/e, every student receives a binding recommendation on the continuation of studies (BSA). The result can be positive or negative, but the BSA can also be postponed for a year in some circumstances (explained below). With the BSA, we indicate whether there is a good match between you and your program and whether we consider you capable of successfully completing your studies within a reasonable period of time.
A positive BSA is granted by achieving 45 out of 60 credits in the first year of your bachelor’s program. If you get less than 45 credits, you will receive a negative BSA. In this case, you will not be able to enrol in the same program for the next three years. The BSA is determined by the examination committee of your program.
Pre-recommendation
The academic year has four quartiles. After Q2 you will receive a pre-recommendation, a preliminary study advice. This recommendation is not binding, but gives a confirmation of study success or a first indication in case of insufficient study progress.
BSA postponement due to acknowledged personal circumstances
The BSA is meant to assess students' fit for the program. However, some students may have difficulties obtaining 45 credits due to personal circumstances. Personal circumstances are difficulties or problems outside of your control affecting your studies and day-to-day life. Examples of these circumstances are health problems like a chronic illness or mental health issues, a functional impairment, family circumstances, pregnancy and more. If you are having personal circumstances which are affecting your studies and daily life, they can be considered when determining your BSA.
Please note that your personal circumstances can only be taken into account for the BSA if you have discussed them in a timely manner. You need to contact your academic advisor within 20 working days of the start of these circumstances, or as soon as possible if they don’t have a clear starting date. It is always better to be on the safe side.
If you would like to continue your studies but are having personal difficulties, reach out and ask for help. You may think you are alone in this, but in a university with thousands of students, chances are there are dozens of students going through the same situation as you.
Have a look at the acknowledged personal circumstances page. There you will find information on what personal circumstances are and how we can support you.
