The technical courses of the specialization Living are shown in green in the program overview below.
If you think about it, we spend every moment of our lives in different environments: our homes, study places, workspaces, hospitals, roads, parks, bars… Whether we work, study, relax or recover from illness, the outcome of our activities is shaped by the social and physical environment in which they take place. Temperature, privacy, and access to daylight and nature are but a few examples of environmental characteristics that can influence our mood, concentration, or stress levels. The P&T living specialization track focusses on combining psychology and engineering to support the design of environments that can support our mental and physical health, performance, and pro-social and pro-environmental behavior. For this purpose, the psychology and psychological research methods courses of the P&T program are complemented with courses that provide engineering knowledge and skills specific to the living or built environment domain, such as quantifying and controlling of physical conditions (e.g., light, sound, temperature), designing buildings with human comfort and sustainability in mind, 3D modeling and VR rendering, and recording and analyzing the behavioral and physiological responses of people as they navigate our physical world.
