Professional and Personal Development learning line
To be prepared as an engineer to take on important societal, technological, and scientific challenges, to be able to deal with uncertainty of a rapid changing work field, and to be durably employable, it is important to develop professional and personal skills. In the core program of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, the Professional and Personal Development learning line is an integral part, and consists of the following four competence areas:
- Academic knowledge and field-related competences
- Professional competences
- Self- and social awareness
- Adaptability
Academic knowledge and field-related competences
This aspect includes knowledge and skills related to the key concepts of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, and the corresponding engineering profile, as well as the academic skills and attitude to operate in the engineering profession.
Professional competences
This aspect relates to the general competencies required to function in a professional setting, such as communication, collaboration, planning and organization, dealing with scientific information, reflecting, and safety.
Self- and social awareness
To be durably employable, awareness of the personal learning purpose and ambitions, strengths, weaknesses, values, and beliefs are important, as well as reflecting upon this is essential. This aspect includes self- and social awareness, and taking responsibility.
Adaptability
In addition, being durably employable requires the ability to actively prepare and adapt to changing (professional) environments and circumstances. This includes self-directed learning, dealing with uncertainty, proactivity and innovative thinking.
