Information for organizations

Doing an internship and/or graduation project at an organization is part of most of our study programs. We stimulate our students to gain experience in a company setting. Our students can add value to a variety of organizations, both Dutch and international.

Are you interested in working with TU/e students at your organization? On this page you can find more information. We are always open to new ways to collaborate. Feel free to contact us.

Internships and graduation projects

Do you have an exciting topic or challenge that could use some extra attention or an opportunity for work experience at your organization? It might be interesting for you to engage one of our students as an intern.

General information for internships and graduation projects

  • At TU/e, mostly master level students do internships. They can do this in the frame of their graduation project, but internships (sometimes part of the elective space) are also common. In some departments, Bachelor level students also have the possibility to do an internship. These will mostly be third year bachelor's students.
  • Mostly, there is no fixed starting or end date for internships for our students. For some study programs, students have set starting moments in September and February.
  • It is important that our students can work on high level projects and gain relevant experience related to their studies. They should not just be asked to perform whatever tasks are urgent at the moment.
  • Coaching and daily supervision are key as it will be your responsibility to provide students with the necessary guidance.
  • Your organization will be asked to be part of the assessment of the student in some way, usually in an advisory role.
  • Some departments have further guidelines, please see below for more information.

Agreements

We strongly advise all our students to use a written agreement when doing an internship or graduation project with an organization (this includes all types of companies, education and government institutes, and research institutes). An agreement ensures that both the student and the organization have a mutual understanding of the expectations and responsibilities.

The UNL internship agreement is the default contract for all TU/e students doing internships and graduation projects at organizations in The Netherlands. As of July 2022, the fourteen Dutch universities all use the UNL internship agreement. This was decided after extensive consultation with students and organizations. The UNL internship agreement ensures clear agreements between students, universities and internship organizations.

With the UNL internship agreement in place non-EEA students no longer have to use a NUFFIC agreement. The UNL internship agreement meets all legal requirements for non-EEA students to do an internship in the Netherlands. If requested by the organization a non-EEA student can annex the UNL agreement with a NUFFIC agreement, but this is not mandatory.

The TU/e has established framework agreements with several organizations. TU/e students doing an internship or graduation project at these companies make use of the framework agreement instead of the UNL agreement. TU/e does not accept any changes to a framework agreement. Non-EEA TU/e students may annex a framework agreement with a NUFFIC agreement if requested by the organization, but this is not mandatory.
