Agreements

You can find extensive information about agreements in the Comprehensive guide to internship and graduation project agreements. Make sure to read through this guide carefully. You can find a short summary below.

We strongly advise every student to use a written agreement when doing an internship or graduation project with an organization. An agreement ensures that both you and the organization have a mutual understanding of the expectations and responsibilities. As a legal document it can save you from potential issues down the line.

The UNL internship agreement is the default contract for all TU/e students doing internships and graduation projects at organizations in The Netherlands. When doing an internship or graduation project make sure to fill out and sign the UNL internship agreement together with your organization. Please note, only your department’s managing director is authorized to sign your agreement on behalf of TU/e, see below.

  • Non-EEA students

Non-EEA TU/e students also use the UNL internship agreement. The UNL internship agreement meets all legal requirements for non-EEA students to do an internship in the Netherlands. If requested by the organization a non-EEA student can annex the UNL agreement with a NUFFIC agreement, but this is not mandatory.

  • Internships and graduation projects at ASML, Vanderlande, Lely Holdings and Flanders Make.

TU/e students doing an internship at ASML, Vanderlande, Lely Holding S.à.r.l., or Flanders Make use the framework agreement agreed upon with those organizations. Non-EEA TU/e students may annex a framework agreement with a NUFFIC agreement if requested by the organization, but this is not mandatory. Any changes to a framework agreement are not accepted.

  • What if the organization does not want to use the UNL internship agreement ?

If the organization does not want to make use of the UNL internship agreement and offers you the organization's own agreement, always try to get them to use the UNL internship agreement. If the organization insists on using their own agreement, make sure to send it to your department's contact person (see above). In consultation with your department, the education lawyer will check and negotiate the agreement to make sure you and TU/e run no risks, e.g.:

  • Internships and graduation projects outside of The Netherlands.

TU/e students doing an internship or graduation project outside of The Netherlands are advised to use the UNL internship agreement as well. However, the specifics of a country will in most cases lead to alterations to the UNL internship agreement or an alternative contract as suggested by the organization.

Signing

Only the managing director of your department is authorized to sign your agreement on behalf of TU/e. Your teacher, coach or supervisor is not allowed to sign your agreement. Contact your department's contact person (see above) for more information on your department's signing procedure.
