Switching studies

Within the Bachelor College it is possible to change your major. The moment at which you want to switch studies (starting on September 1 of the next academic year or during the current academic year) determines the way in which you submit your request.

Switching studies starting on September 1 of the next academic year

Would you like to switch to a bachelor’s program with a study-choice check starting on September 1 of the next academic year?  Then submit your request for enrollment via Studielink. The deadline for submitting your request is August 1.

Would you like to switch to a bachelor’s program with selection starting on September 1? Then submit your request via Studielink by January 15 at the latest. You will then go through the same selection process as prospective students.

Switching studies during the current academic year

If you would like to change your degree program during the current academic year, then the following step-by-step plan applies. You can switch degree programs with effect from each new quarter. Are you considering switching? If so, discuss your options as soon as possible with your current academic advisor and with the academic advisor of your new program.

Please note: During the academic year, you can only switch to a bachelor’s program with a study-choice check. You cannot switch to a bachelor’s program with selection.

Step-by-step plan

1 Student

Plan a meeting (approximately 6 weeks before the end of the quarter) with the academic advisor of your current major. The academic advisor can inform you regarding switching studies and can assist you in making a decision.
2 Student

Schedule an appointment with the academic advisor of your new major. The academic advisor can tell you more about the new major and advise on the composition of your new curriculum.


For bachelor’s students switching studies can affect the binding recommendation (BSA) on continuation of their studies.
3 Student

Register for courses. Note the registration deadline for courses to avoid having to pay administration costs.
4 Student

Use this form to inform the Enrollment Office at Education and Student Affairs (ESA) that you would like to change you degree program.


The deadline to submit the form is 1 week before the start of the quarter at the latest.
5 ESA

The Enrollment Office will process your request to switch studies within 5 working days.


Your enrollment for your new major will only be finalized after you have had an interview with the academic advisor for your new major. Your enrollment for your current major will then be terminated.
6 Student

Inform the Center for Student Administration (CSA) at your current and new major that you are switching studies.
7 CSA

The CSA for your new major arranges your course package, based on your request.
